Book Art
Alice Cooper on Stage
My Alice Cooper book
was painted in a midnight
blue colour with silver
chrome hightlights. A
curtain and pelmet in
dark blue were made to
frame the book and
give the impression of a
stage. The curtain
material has a lighter blue
glittery pattern running
through it. Two blue and
gold tassels hold the
curtains back. A large
rectangle has been cut out of
the book on the right hand side to
form Alice’s
“stage”. A dark blue twist
cord runs down
the centre of the book as a
bookmark. A
miniature
working spotlight
sits atop the book
and is able to be positioned.
The remainder of
the items on the book were
part of an Alice
Cooper action figure set.
Behind Alice on
his “stage” is a faux iron
gate and he is
complete with his hat, snake,
sword and cash. His name is at the top of the book and just beneath this is the bloodied blade of a
guillotine. At the base is the lunette which is able to be opened and closed with Alice’s head
between the two pieces...also marginally bloodied! The entire left side consists of a spiders web
with 3 spiders attached.
Fairyland
I have reproduced the “theme” of this book many times as it is a
popular gift for young girls. This book forms one half of a set , the
other half being my “Dream Fairy” book. The book is painted in baby
pink with metallic silver highlights on the page curls and around the
edges of the book itself. On top of the pink paint I have put a pale
pink cobweb tissue paper. On the left of the book is the poem “The
Road to Fairyland” by Ernest Thompson Seton which has been
placed on a dusky pink background with a silver
border. The image of the fairy above the water on the right of the page has been
tinted in a matching colour. Down the centre of the book is a pink and white twist cord
“bookmark”. On either side of the book are two
different resin fairies in a lilac colour sitting
atop dark pink chiffon
bows which trail down to
reach the central pale
pink chiffon bow at the
base of the book. Overhanging the top of the book is
a wispy pale pink chiffon adornment
with a diamante at the bottom of each strand. This
adornment also hangs over the back of
the book. There are two bunches of flowers at the
top of the book in pink and purple and
sitting on top of these is another resin fairy, this one with moving wings. The final touch, hanging from a pink cord,
is a small jar of “fairy dust” with a silver coloured fairy charm attached.
